2026 Mazda CX-5 Frequently Asked Questions in Burlington, WA
Are you considering the purchase of a 2026 Mazda CX-5? If so, then you are probably looking to get some answers about the features it has in store. That’s why we at Dwayne Lane's Skagit Mazda have made this guide, so you’re ready to move through the buying process and start your journeys in Burlington.
Is the 2026 Mazda CX-5 All-New?
This is one of the most common questions we receive. The answer is that the vehicle has been updated mostly on the inside rather than on the outside. While exterior styling updates from the previous CX-5 are minor and the powertrain has not changed, the interior has been updated significantly. The third-generation model introduces Mazda's latest evolution of Kodo design, creating a more spacious cabin while maintaining the familiar silhouette that has defined the model since 2012.
How Much Larger Is It?
Size is a hot topic for people who felt the old Mazda CX-5 was a bit cramped. A 4.6-inch increase in wheelbase brings a welcome increase in rear-seat room and added cargo space, aimed at making it more competitive against rivals including the Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, and Volkswagen Tiguan. Specifically, there is a claimed 2.3-inch improvement in rear-seat knee room, and a larger cargo opening makes it easier to load tall items.
What Is the New Infotainment System?
The switch to a Google-based system is drawing a lot of attention. The old rotary-knob-based infotainment system has been replaced in favor of a new Google-based system with a fully capacitive touchscreen. Nearly every physical control in the redesigned 2026 Mazda CX-5 has been relocated to the infotainment screen, and there is no longer a volume knob, which has been replaced by an on-screen slider. Adjusting the climate system requires using the screen as well to change fan speed and activate seat heaters on your trips thorugh Northern Washington.
Is There a Hybrid Version?
This is arguably the most frequently asked question among eco-conscious shoppers. The 2026 Mazda CX-5 launches with a 2.5L SKYACTIV®-G 4-cylinder engine, but Mazda has announced a SKYACTIV®-Z hybrid powertrain featuring Mazda Hybrid System technology that will deliver improved performance and fuel efficiency while maintaining engaging driving dynamics on your journeys to Rotary Park.
How Does It Compare to the Mazda CX-50?
Mazda now sells two overlapping compact SUVs, which sometimes confuses shoppers. The Mazda CX-5 is built in Japan and sold in different markets around the world, while the Mazda CX-50 is designed for and manufactured in the United States. The company says the Mazda CX-5 is focused on on-road performance, while the Mazda CX-50 is geared toward adventure-seeking buyers. There is still significant price overlap between the two, with only the Mazda CX-50 hybrid and turbocharged versions costing more than the Mazda CX-5.
How Does It Drive?
People who loved the old Mazda CX-5's sporty character want to know whether that feeling has been preserved. Concerns about Mazda de-emphasizing the model’s sporty demeanor were put to rest, with the new model delivering the same sort of driving engagement as the outgoing one. In Sport mode, steering feel and response are enhanced while the transmission holds gears longer for added performance. If you’re eager to experience the way this compact SUV handles, then contact us to schedule a test drive!

“ We recently bought a new Mazda cx30 from Dwayne Lane in Burlington. If you go there ask for Bobby Green. He answered all our questions, was extremely helpful & really was knowledgeable about their inventory. Helped us get the right fit for us. Bobby was so polite & respectful; I can’t say enough good things about him!! Our search for a car started that day & ended with our purchase that very week. We didn’t need to look any further…. ”
“ Called asking for info on my 2021 Mazda 3 Sport today & Lee in parts was super helpful. Thanks again Lee! ”
“ I have been here twice so far for vehicle service. I live 5 minutes away from Edmonds Mazda. Going up to Dwayne Lane's Skagit/Burlington Mazda is totally worth the extra hour's drive. The check in proces, the information, the way they share what is really necessary, what should be repaired or replaced soon and what to keep an eye on. I never feel pressured and when I ask what is most important considering my budget, they will explain it to me. Both times, they said the less expensive needs would be ok for now but the other services should be completed at next one to two visits. They send a video recap of the inspection and it is easy to follow and personalized. Not robotic and not full of mechanical jargon that a regular layperson wouldn't understand, me. They thoroughly explained why they couldn't work on some after market changed made by previous owner but told me they could and would recommend switching back to OEM, explaining the pros and cons of each option. Prices are straight forward and estimates usually come out at midpoint. For a dealer service garage, this is nearly unheard of. I will be happy to return for my due 60k service as soon as possible. I know most people will not drive an hour out of the way but if you are heading up that way or live up that way, give them a shot for your next oil change. Oh and they have loaners, although I waited and it was quick. Will need that next time though. 2020 Mazda CX-5 Signature Turbo AWD. ”

“ My experience with Dwayne Lane Skagit Mazda was, without question, the worst vehicle purchase and service experience I have ever had. This experience involved a brand-new 2025 Mazda CX-90, and what should have been an exciting purchase turned into a months long ordeal that ultimately resulted in a Washington State Lemon Law buyback. The problems began before we even took delivery of the vehicle. Our sales consultant, Wilson Rich, ordered the wrong vehicle, claiming that it is difficult with all the vehicle codes Mazda uses. I was able to look at Mazda dealer websites and easily determine whether a CX-90 had captain's chairs in the second row or not. Rather than simply correcting the mistake and making things right, we were pressured by the sales manager at the time, Michael Credle, to keep a vehicle that we never ordered and did not want. Michael's tone quickly changed from "get what you want in your new vehicle" to essentially asking us to make sacrifices because the dealership had made a mistake. What should have been a straightforward correction turned into an uncomfortable experience where we felt pressured to accept the dealership's error, and that was not going to happen. During the first seven months of ownership, our brand new 2025 Mazda CX-90 spent a staggering 63 days at the dealership for repairs, diagnosis, and service visits. No customer purchasing a new vehicle should spend nearly a third of their ownership experience without their car. What made this experience even more frustrating was how our concerns were handled by the service department. On multiple occasions, service advisors suggested that we simply turn up the radio so we would not hear the noises and symptoms we were reporting. Being told to mask the symptoms of a problem rather than address the problem itself is unacceptable, especially on a brand-new vehicle. We were also repeatedly told that many of the issues could not be duplicated. Eventually, I was asked to participate in a test drive with members of the service department because they claimed they were unable to reproduce the problems. During that test drive, the very issues we had been reporting for months immediately presented themselves—even before leaving the dealership parking lot. The transmission concerns and other problems that supposedly could not be duplicated became obvious once dealership personnel witnessed them firsthand. Instead of listening to the customer and aggressively pursuing a resolution, our concerns were repeatedly minimized, dismissed, or explained away as normal operating characteristics. We lost count of the number of trips back to the dealership, the amount of time spent without our vehicle, and the frustration of being told everything was normal when it clearly was not. After months of dealing with unresolved defects and repeated repair attempts, we ultimately pursued a Washington State Lemon Law claim. The outcome speaks for itself: the vehicle qualified for a Lemon Law return and was bought back. A successful Lemon Law claim is not awarded because of minor inconveniences. It occurs when substantial defects cannot be repaired after reasonable opportunities. The fact that we reached that point after repeatedly being told there was no problem says everything prospective customers need to know. I would never purchase or service another vehicle from Dwayne Lane Skagit Mazda, nor would I recommend them to friends, family, or anyone looking for a dealership that stands behind its customers when serious problems arise. After this experience, we have completely lost confidence in both the dealership and the Mazda brand. Instead of replacing this vehicle with another Mazda, we will be taking our business elsewhere. We plan to walk across the street and purchase a Toyota because, after everything we have experienced, reliability, accountability, and customer confidence are far more important than brand loyalty. ”
“ May 2026 and Dwayne Lane Mazda Still Sucks. They will screw you and smile while it happens. They actually enjoy your displeasure, anger and dissatisfaction and will put it in writing telling you. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. Buyer Beware. This dealership, the owner, and managemrnt will lie to your face and then put it in writing. The service department is incompetent. Anyone even thinking of purchasing a vehicle here needs to think twice. They will screw you. They will even put it into writing how they will screw you over. The owner Thomas Lane cannot be contacted when you have a serious complaint. The Mazda Corporation was worse and will not escalate a complaint. The owner Thomas Lane would not contact us for a resolution. We lost thousands of dollars in repairs on a brand new car. Very unpleasant experience at this dealership. They damaged our new car at 300 miles on the odometer right front of us. They put it in writing they would not fix the damage. General Manager and Sales Manager are both grossly incompetent and have zero knowledge of what customer service means and will put it writing. . ”
“ My experience with mazda service/parts department has not been positive, which means I will no longer buy Mazda products. ”

“ We worked with Amanda, one of the service writers, and she was fantastic. She was friendly, professional, and took the time to answer our questions and explain everything clearly. She also helped us get a great deal on the service we needed. We truly appreciate her help and outstanding customer service. Thank you, Amanda! ”
